My name is Darcy Hinrichs. I am a designer and illustrator from Sidney, Nebraska. I have been drawing for as long as I can remember but didn’t really seriously consider going into the creative field until I was working on a degree in elementary education. A mentor of mine actually pulled me aside and practically shook me, saying, “Why are you wasting your talent?!” It obviously made an impression and well…here I am!
I have been working in the design industry for over 10 years. I have an Associate of Arts degree in Art Education and also a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design. As I mentioned before, I have been drawing for as long as I remember and I think that because of that, it has been and probably always will be a strong asset. I don’t think that there is a day that goes by that I don’t draw something. Granted, I’ll admit that a good share of my sketching is probably done on sticky notes and meeting notes but it still counts, right?! A lot of times, it helps me to focus, helps me to brainstorm ideas at given times, provides an organized path in my ‘spaghetti-brain’ to problem solve. I feel functional when I can draw. It just makes 2+2=4 for me.
My most recent position was as a Senior Interactive Art Director for Cabela’s Brand Marketing department. I was the SME (subject-matter expert/design lead) for Cabela’s email program. I redesigned various email templates, created a component system to provide improved consistency and efficiency, collaborated with partners to improve processes and also provided design direction, feedback and approvals. I helped to maintain various pages and elements on the company website, created landing pages, emails, mobile, social and affiliate marketing graphics, and mobile application UI using software applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Exact Target, Scene7, HTML, CSS, Adobe AEM, Sketch, inVision and various content management systems (CMS). I also provided photo studio and location photoshoot art direction for digital needs. I have experience working with full photoshoot crews including producers, photographers, additional art directors, stylists, hair & makeup, assistants and model-talent. Some of the photos that I have provided art direction for have also been featured in various catalogs for Cabela’s, including a couple of catalog covers. They have also been used for various digital needs such as on landing pages, emails, social content and also Omni campaign events.
I am continually looking for ways to grow and develop as a designer and mentor. I love exploring new ideas and being a catalyst of inspiration for others in their growth and development. I have attended HOW Design LIVE conference for several years and have been an active participant within the conference community. I have been an official Ambassador for the conference since 2015. With that, I have provided promotional marketing support through various social media platforms, customer service to attendees, speakers and staff, assisted with networking events, given speaker introductions, organized special events and have also provided creative that has been featured in directories and swag. I have also written a couple of articles for HOWdesign.com.
I also do freelance for various other needs- logo/brand identity, business collateral, advertising and also specialize in stationery and event design. I love bringing joy to others through customized design for important life events. There is something so beautiful, wonderful and rewarding to create work that you know will bring a smile, touch someone’s heart, be thoughtful, memorable…I can go on and on. It’s such an honor for me to be able to provide my talent to such a wonderful field.
If you need custom design and illustration for your logo, brand identity, business cards, letterhead, advertising, stationery or event, please contact me- it would be an honor to work with you.
